About Dr. Burkholder

Dr. Burkholder is a board-certified emergency medicine physician by the American Board of Emergency Medicine who is the medical director of Olympic Concierge Medicine, a successful concierge medicine practice in the Tampa Bay area. Dr. Burkholder is not your typical doctor. Dr. Burkholder was a courtside physician for Olympians in the Rio2016 Olympics and was on the front lines during multiple natural disasters such as Hurricane Irma & Ian as well the Zika epidemic and COVID-19 pandemic.

During his residency in Emergency Medicine at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach, Dr. Burkholder was fortunate enough to treat people from all over the world and from all walks of life, including movie stars, professional athletes and the clientele in Miami Beach. He trained at the world-renowned Ryder Trauma Center alongside the US Military before they went into battle at the nation’s 2nd largest hospital, Jackson Memorial Hospital.

Prior to medical school, he worked alongside the President of the American Academy of Preventive Medicine helping to oversee the health and wellbeing of over 100,000 employees at one of the world’s largest healthcare companies, GlaxoSmithKline. He worked at the US headquarters in Philadelphia as well as the South American Headquarters in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

He was a successful multi-sport high school and Division I collegiate athlete and knows what it takes to be the healthiest you can be. Growing up in a medical family, he is focused on the whole person - one of his passions is physical fitness and nutrition. He resides in the Tampa area with his wife Kelsey, two children Atlas and Capri, and their Labrador Retriever, Sedona.

His goal is to help people live the longer, healthier life they deserve and to provide answers and guidance when it matters most. He understands the pain points of today’s healthcare system, long waits, rushed visits, and feeling like just a number, and created Olympic Concierge Medicine to be the opposite. By removing barriers to care, he gives patients back what they’ve been missing: time, trust, and a true partnership in their health. His focus is not only on addressing problems when they arise but also on preventing them, so patients can enjoy peace of mind, better health, and more of the life they love.

"My opinion of Dr. Burkholder is that he has the ability to look at the whole situation to diagnose and treat. He does not focus on “one thing” but rather treats the whole person, mind and body. Dr. Burkholder is also very clear and comprehensive in his communication and explanations, making sure the patient understands the strategy of their health goals as well as how to implement and maintain them. Dr. Burkholder saved my husband’s life. My husband’s heart stopped beating just a few minutes after meeting Dr. Burkholder. My husband had what is called a widow-maker blockage and it stopped his heart about a dozen times over forty-five minutes. Once my husband was stabilized, Dr. Burkholder checked on my well-being, helped me to call our family and even made sure I was fed. Eventually, we were discharged from Dr. Burkholder’s ER to the ICU. While I was waiting to be allowed back into the ICU, I was surprised to see Dr. Burkholder arrive to the ward after his shift had ended. We spoke briefly before he went to check with his colleagues on my husband and managed to save his life again, while not even on duty. In the move from the ER to the ICU, one of my husband’s lungs had collapsed. The Doctors on that floor were focusing on my husband’s heart, as that had been the situation needing attention in the ER. Once Dr. Burkholder arrived, he very quickly realized the situation had changed from one department to the next and was able to quickly dissect the problem and direct his colleagues to a solution. Dr. Burkholder used the ultrasound wand they had been using to look at my husband’s heart to inspect both lungs and show that one had collapsed on the gurney ride up from the ER, effectively saving my husband’s life again. Dr. Burkholder affectionately refers to my husband as the Miracle Man for surviving against all odds, but we think of him as the Miracle Doctor because he fought against all of the odds to give my husband the opportunity to survive and thrive."

"It’s pretty simple to say, if it was not for Dr. Justin Burkholder, I would not be writing this now. Dr. Justin Burkholder was on duty as the Emergency Roon doctor at Mount Sinai Hospital in Miami Beach when he first met me. He then discovered one of my lungs had collapsed and I needed resuscitation again. Next month, in August of 2025, we will celebrate the 8th anniversary of our life changing events and I offer my sincere thanks to Dr. Burkholder and our families.
